Each year, the Saint John’s Health Center Foundation and the Irene Dunne Guild host the Caritas Gala at which the Health Center honors an individual or individuals who demonstrate compassion and concern for others through exceptional service to the community. This year we are proud to be honoring Pierce Brosnan with the Caritas Award. |

Friends of Saint John’s who have been past honorees include Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards, Chris O’Donnell, Rhonda Fleming Carlson, Patrick Soon-Shiong and Michele B. Chan, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Anthony Hopkins, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, Martin Sheen, Vin Scully, Gretchen and Michael Wayne, Sister Marie Madeleine Shonka, Robert Wagner, Angela Lansbury, former First Lady Nancy Reagan and Jimmy Stewart. |

On this special occasion, we will have the privilege of presenting the Spirit of Saint John’s Award to Donald L. Morton, MD, for his sustained dedication to the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center. As one of the world’s most accomplished surgical oncologists and clinical cancer scientists, Dr. Morton continues to improve the treatment and outcomes of our patients with melanoma and other tumors. |

At a time when hospitals are closing and quality health care eludes many families, Saint John’s continues to provide competent, compassionate care to greater Los Angeles. Proceeds from the Caritas Gala benefit the Health Center’s vital programs and services such as the Child and Family Development Center, Women’s Health Services and their latest project, the Irene Dunne Guild Gift Shop. The Caritas Gala is also a mechanism by which Saint John’s communicates with the public at large to share the word that this unique community hospital is an essential healthcare resource available to everyone. |

With an annual attendance of 700 individuals, the Caritas Gala has a distinguished following of prominent Westside residents, including the Saint John’s Foundation Board of Trustees, Irene Dunne Guild, patrons and friends, physicians and prominent business and community leaders. |
